My life in the book of Proverbs

Proverbs 7:1-5 ESV
[1]  My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you; [2]  keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye; [3]  bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. [4] Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call insight your intimate friend, [5] to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words.

God’s Commandments equal true wisdom and insight.

True wisdom will guide our daily lives, when we treasure God’s word in our hearts, more than the pleasures of life, which are temporary.

Often in proverbs, seeking after the temporary pleasures of life are presented as foolishness and compared to adultery.

Figuratively speaking, making friends with this world and seeking after foolishness and folly is like seeking after adultery, like flirting with a promiscuous woman , an adulterous.

In the same way that committing adultery can destroy a man’s physical,  mental, emotional and spiritual health, ignoring the truth and wisdom of God’s word leaves a man open and vulnerable to the traps and pitfalls of this world.

Hiding God’s word in your heart will lead to treasuring His commandments deep in your soul, which will lead to understanding and knowledge. Wisdom is the act of putting all of this into action and applying it to your daily life.

Godly wisdom comes when we seek Him with all of our heart. When we do this, the Holy Spirit will guide us into all Truth. And the truth will set us free.

The enemy wants to pursue and consume us, to occupy our minds with clutter and confusion, deception and chaos, to manipulate us with our own feelings and emotions and to invade and control our thoughts.

But the word of God is our first defense against the wicked wiles of the devil, our chief adversary.

Hebrews 4:12 ESV
[12] For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

The living power of God’s word, when it penetrates your soul, will grab ahold of your heart, mind, soul, and strength. Your life will become a living sacrifice to God; a sweet smelling aroma.
