Our mouth, tongue, and lips; all are used to form our thoughts and express them into words, which can be used wisely to build others up and encourage them, or wickedly, to tear others down.
How we use our words is a reflection of who has rule over us, including our tongue. When the Spirit of God is dwelling within one’s heart, our thoughts will come under His scrutiny and guidance.
When God is in control, the fruit of the Spirit will give us the proper perspective and attitude; especially when it comes to loving and serving others. If we truly love our neighbor as ourselves, then we will live by the golden rule; treating others as we would like to be treated. We won’t be gossiping or spreading rumors and lies. We won’t bear false witness against our neighbor.
How many of us can say we like it when others do this to us?
How will you use your words today?

[19] In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise. [20] The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; The heart of the wicked is worth little. [21] The lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of wisdom.

James 3:3-10 NKJV
[3] Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. [4] Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. [5] Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! [6] And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. [7] For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. [8] But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. [9] With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. [10] Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
