Palm Sunday: is it more than an annual ritual that we observe the week before Easter?
What does Jesus Christ’s Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem mean to us today in 2025?
John 12:12-15 NKJV
[12] The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, [13] took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!” [14] Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: [15] “Fear not, daughter of Zion; Behold, your King is coming, Sitting on a donkey’s colt.”

Matthew 21:4-5 NKJV
[4] All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: [5] “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ”

Zechariah 9:9 NLT
[9] Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt.

The King is coming (song by Newsboys)
Make a way for the King
The King is comin’
Empty hearts are fillin’ up
Wicked ways are comin’ undone
Every eye is lookin’ out for You
City lights are burnin’ out
Freedom’s song is ringin’ loud
Dead men wakin’ up to the sound of You
And all our hearts can sing
All our hearts can sing
Is make a way for-
Make a way for-
Make a way for the King
The King is comin’
Split the sky with your glory
Bring to life an awakening
Burn away everything that’s not for You
Hear our voices cryin’ out
We won’t stop ’til Heaven’s come down
We won’t stop ’til every knee bows to You
And all our hearts will sing
Is make a way for- (make a way for-)
Make a way for (make a way for-)
Make a way for the King
The King is comin’
Make a way for- (make a way for-)
Make a way for- (make a way for-)
Make a way for the King
The King is comin’
Open up the doors
Open up the doors
Open up the doors
Our King is comin’
Open up the doors
Open up the doors
Lift your eyes to see
Our King is comin’
Make a way for- (make a way for-)
Make a way for- (make a way for-)
Make a way for the King
Our King is comin’
Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
The prophesy of Zechariah chapter 9 is unfolding, as Jesus enters Jerusalem, aka, Zion, God’s holy city. A new kingdom will be established; one not made with hands, nor one of this world, but the Kingdom of God, which is not of this world. This is the Kingdom that Jesus would usher in as the King of kings and Lord of lords, the first born from the dead.
Colossians 1:18 NLT
[18] Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything.
The Israelites, were hoping for a king who would deliver them from the tyranny and oppression of the Roman government, but the King they were receiving, as He rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey, in the manner and custom that a king would be received by the people, has come to to redeem them, and all of mankind, from the enemy, Satan, as prophesied in Genesis 3:14-16.

Revelation 1:5 NLT
[5] and from Jesus Christ. He is the faithful witness to these things, the first to rise from the dead, and the ruler of all the kings of the world. All glory to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us.
