Psalm 12
The treachery of Man vs the constancy of God
It often seems overwhelming when we look at the world and how it operates. Many times it seems like religious people aren’t any better. They claim to be Christians and followers of Christ, but act like everyone else in the world. This is way the world has been operating from the beginning, when Adam and Eve sinned and were booted out of the garden. The goal of Satan from the beginning was to deceive us, destroy us and keep us separated from God.
When Adam sinned and fell away from God, he immediately experienced separation from God, fracturing his one on one relationship with God, which was eventually restored through the finished work of Christ on the cross (Romans 5:14-19)
The Psalmist, David, reflecting on the depraved nature of man vs the constancy and pure nature of God, came to the realization that all men are liars, murderers and thieves in their hearts; that the heart of man is desperately wicked and the only way to escape this foolishness and folly is to put their faith and trust in the promises of God and His word, which produces fruit leading to righteousness, holiness, justice and goodness. These are the traits of those who are citizens of God’s Kingdom. The kingdoms of this world operate according to its god, Satan, and his wicked ways, entrenched in darkness and deception.
It’s not a new thing, nor a sign of the times, that the godly seem to be MIA and quickly disappearing from the earth.
It has been said that evil thrives when good men stand by and do nothing. I would venture to say that these “good men” may not even be paying attention, because they’re caught up with the treacherous ways of this world, compromised, and not focused on the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, which is what true Christians seek first. When we seek His Kingdom and His righteousness first in our lives, the wicked schemes and treacherous ways of this world become more noticeable and less desirable, as we’re transformed by the renewing of our minds, day to day.
As we continue to feed on the word of God, our spirit will grow and our flesh will starve. The works of the flesh will have nowhere to go or grow and will give way to the Holy Spirit, working on the inside of our soul.
Psalms 12:1-8 NLT
[1] Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth! [2] Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts. [3] May the Lord cut off their flattering lips and silence their boastful tongues. [4] They say, “We will lie to our hearts’ content. Our lips are our own—who can stop us?” [5] The Lord replies, “I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do.” [6] The Lord’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. [7] Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, [8] even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land.

Micah 7:2-3 NLT
[2] The godly people have all disappeared; not one honest person is left on the earth. They are all murderers, setting traps even for their own brothers. [3] Both their hands are equally skilled at doing evil! Officials and judges alike demand bribes. The people with influence get what they want, and together they scheme to twist justice.

Isaiah 57:1 NLT
[1] Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come.
